Since I can remember, I have always enjoyed being around children, especially the younger ones. Their enthusiasm for life, their amazing capacity for awareness, their ability to see with clarity, their resilience, their imagination, their sparkle - even in the face of seeming difficulties and traumatic events - these qualities have captured me. Children are seekers as well. I have found that children, even those who appear to be beaten down by the circumstances into which they are born or in which they find themselves in the present, know that somehow, things could be different - could be better. They have an innate curiosity as well as what seems to be a magnetic attraction to people who share that knowing.
I am always interested in finding new ways to facilitate children and their parents and others to have the kind of change in their lives they would like to have. I have been trained by some of the very best of the best in a variety of fields - social work, play therapy, family therapy, parenting, individual therapy, couples therapy, to name but a few, and, have the credentials and certificates that go along with all that!
Specifically, I am a licensed clinical social worker, or LCSW, which means that I have a master's degree in social work, and am licensed to practice. Also, I am a registered play therapist supervisor, or RPT-S, which is the highest credential available for play therapists. I am certified to run two types of parenting groups, one based on the Great Behavior Breakdown model of Bryan Post, and the other based on the Beyond Consequences, Logic and Control model of Bryan Post and Heather Forbes.
As well as tapping into those teachings and trainings, I have available to me the richness of my practice wisdom of twenty plus years of working as a therapist. The children and families and people who have graced my life have contributed so much to me, and to them I am so very grateful!
In addition to the more traditional forms of therapy, I have been drawn to energy work. Specifically, I am an Access Consciousness facilitator, certified to teach a variety of Access classes (see Access Consciousness tab.) Also, I am certified to do Reiki, a particular form of hands-on healing.
I founded the Child and Family Play Therapy Center in 2010, which is dedicated to empowering people to know what they know and to create the kind of change in their lives they would like to have.
